I believe Mulgrew did compromise his union position with the DOE and Mayor just for the fact that he has made numerous unilateral givebacks in teacher evaluations, the TDA fixed interest rate, tenure, etc. and didn't have to surrender anything as the old contract is still in effect.

My son has Ms. Abbott for 7th grade math this year at Anderson. I have to say she is a fantastic teacher! The NYC DOE teacher rating system is so ludicrous and a disservice to excellent teachers who have kids performing at the highest levels on the tests. The teachers are rated on student improvement. For many students who are performing at the highest levels on the state tests year after year, there is no room for improvement. What happens? The teachers get low scores because their kids' scores did not go up. How ridiculous is that? This rating system is a joke and will only drive away excellent teachers like Ms. Abbott which is a loss to our kids and school.

The lawsuit is not frivolous. I have experienced one year of step by step deceit and betrayal by the UFT from it's District Rep, Brooklyn Borough Leader, "special reps" and NYS UFT Lawyers and I do have documented evidence to prove the breach of a sacred duty by the UFT to it's most vulnerable members that points to a conspiracy. Is anybody really surprised that crap like this is going on with these administrators-gone-wild? The AGWs of the UFT and DOE are in bed together...anybody disagree? Just look at the success rate of the UFT with regard to representing teachers who are maliciously, arbitrarily and capriciously victimized by the DOE only to receive a second assault at the hands of the conniving UFT and their NYSUT lawyers. We have a similar situation in LA. Our superintendent is a hired gun who has acted with impunity , firing 850+ since he arrived. There is an escalating unmber of teachers never afforded due process, and directives to get rid of teachers, preferably those who are higher on the pay scale, "over" educated and prone to reporting non compliance, act as student activists or fail to pucker up on command.

Mr, Deasy has sown up at schools unannoced and literally fired teachers in front of class. Theres'is intimidation, threats and its not limited to teachers. Parents report there are punitive consequences for daring to speak out, inclung being nanned from parent centers , manhandled by the campus cops who have also showed up to parents homes with threats of deportation.this happened to a committee called DAV which has overseen title 1 funds at lasud for 30 years before the superintented helped himself to money for more tests and whem these parents questioned him he unilaterally snuffed it out. Deasy has been using extortion as well. There are thousandsvof Rif s , the loss f music & art, preschool & adult ed close to the ax, college centers closed, acadmic decathlons, magnate schools and mixed messages abiut lower then raising the bar.how can we make 100% college ready grads when our colleges can only accomodate 30% of graduates... We have to become a national force.

Rubber Room teachers are 60% innocent, 20% not well yet treated terribly and the rest dont belong in a classroom, none of of these teachers are adequately represented, all pay dues and those who find a good lawyer are less vulnerable ---so the sooner the better. The parents, teachers and principals and their unions, and media need to apply pressure on the NYSED commissioner and Pearson to release these tests to the public. Taxpayers have every right to know. I just read the response by the teacher accused of taking a trip to Puerto Rico via taking a the day off before Thanksgiving. I have a few questions: 1) She did not state in her response if she did in fact or go to Puerto Rico on the day that she called in sick. 2) She claims that she was informed of her breast cancer starting again on the Monday after vacation. Is she stating that she had a breast cancer test done on the day that she called in sick? I am a life-long teacher with an outstanding attendance record and like the teacher i in this story I have a very long commute to school. I respect her for 10 years of dedicated teaching. However, if she did in fact take a day off before a vacation to go to Puerto Rico, she deserves at least a letter in her file and to be docked a day of pay. Just imagine the chaos if even 15% of teachers called in "sick" the day before a vacation. Again, I respect this teacher and greatly hope that she does keep her job during the modern day witch trials conducted by the DOE.

The public should learn that anyone being paid an obscene amount of money by the DOE- is biased, and any arbitrator making a rational-fair decision....is either not paid or thrown off the panel.THESE CASES, that you write about....are disheartening, and lead me to the belief....that the NYCDOE is in worse shape than I originally believed. Leave it to the media- to add fuel to the fire. Mr. Principe deserved this win. Unfortunately, the public is fooled into believing that all teachers are bad apples. In reality, it is the Mayor who is a bad apple. It is such a travesty, that a man who was left in charge of maintains order-was punished for doing just that. I also, read somewhere, that there was a video of the incident-that the NYCDOE...wanted to allow as evidence, but only the parts that would show the teacher/dean in an unfavorable light. The Daily News article simply used the now discredited SCI report and failed to do a proper fact check" when it came to my 2002 reprimand. Here is what I said in my blog.

The 2002 Reprimand:

This is just another case of the Daily News failure to "fact check". The 2002 Reprimand was grieved by me and the DOE's favorite Arbitrator, Martin Schienman, threw out the reprimand as "unfair and inaccurate" and was removed from my file. That is why I didn't mention it in my previous post. The fact that the DOE chose to include it in sending my case to the Daily News speaks volumes about the DOE's failure to abide by the rules. The DOE are "sore losers" and this is just another case of them not abiding by the contract.
